आकाङ्क्ष     

आकाङ्क्ष [ākāṅkṣa]   a.
Desiring, wishing.
(In gram.) Requiring some words to complete the sense; अङ्गयुक्तं तिडाकाङ्क्षम् [P.VIII.2.96,14.]
क्षा Desire, wish; भक्त˚ Suśr., भ्रान्त्यालिङ्ग्य मया रहस्यमुदितं तत्सङ्गमाकाङ्क्षया [Amaru. 46.]
(In gram. &c.) The presence of a word necessary to complete the sense, one of the three elements necessary to convey a complete sense or thought (the other two being योग्यता and आसत्ति); आकाङ्क्षा प्रतीतिपर्यवसानविरहः [S. D.2] the absence of the completion of a sense; see Bhāṣā. [P.82,84] and [T. S.49;] in the ex. गौरश्वः पुरुषो हस्ती there is आकाङ्क्षा.
