भट्टारक [bhaṭṭāraka] a.  a. (-रिका f.) Venerable, worshipful &c.; see भट्टार above.
कः A sage, saint.
The sun.
A god, deity.
(In dramas) A king.
An epithet applied to great and learned men. -Comp.
-वारः, -वासरः   Sunday.

भट्टारक

भट्टारक  mfn.  (-कः-का-कं) Venerable, respectable, entitled to reverence or to homage.
 m.  (-क्तः)
1. A sage, a Muni or saint.
2. A deity.
3. (In theatrical language,) A king.
4. The sun.
5. A term especially applied to a Bauddha teacher.
E. भट to nourish, aff. क्विप्, तृ to pass, aff. खुल् and changed to ट; otherwise
ROOTS:
भट क्विप् तृ खुल् ट;
with टल् to be con- fused, the same aff., and changed to ष; a cherisher and punisher, a distributor of rewards and punishments; again, भट्ट said here to mean, authority to go to or obtain, अण् aff. कन् added.
