KĀÑCĪ (KĀNCĪPURA)   This was the capital city of the Cola Kings. This city was also called “Kāncīvaram”. It is mentioned among the holy cities. [M.B. Udyoga Parva, Chapter 161, Verse 21] .

   2. The name of an ancient city situated in the peninsula, and one of the seven sacred cities of the Hindus.
   3. A plant, (Abrus precatories:) see गुञ्जा.
    E. कचि to bind or shine, इन् or ङीष् affixes; whence also काञ्चि.
