बृहदश्व said :-
1. After a very long time, a Brahamana, named पर्णाद, came back to the city and spoke to the daughter of Bhima, these words:- sd
2. `` O दमयन्ती, while searching for Nala, the king of the Nishadhas, I went to the city of Ayodhya and fortunate भाङ्गासुरि.
3. O fair-complexioned lady, possessing great intellect, i repeated the very words of yours before the fortunate ऋतुपर्ण
4. But on hearing the words, which I uttered repeatedly, the king ऋतुपर्ण or any of his countries spoke nothing in reply.
5. When I was allowed to go by the king, some person in the service of ऋतुपर्ण named बाहुक, said to me in private.
6. He is the charrioteer of that king, ugly in appearance, possessing short arms, skilled in swift driving and also in cooking sweet food.
7. Breathing heavily and weeping continuosly, he first inquired after my welfare and then said to me thus:-
8. Although fallen in a great calamity, virtuous women protect themselves by their own efforts; and undoubtedly they obtain heaven.
9. Such virtuous women, even if separated from their husbands, never become engry; they hold their lives, shielded by virtuous behaviour.
10. She should not be angry, even though forsaken by a person, who os foolish, overcome by calamity and deprived of happiness.
11. That lady of unchanging youth should not be angry with a person, who was deprived of his garment by the birds while trying to obtain his maintenance and who is burning with anxiety."
12. Hearing these words of his, I came here immediately. Having heard this your ladyship is an authority (to act further); you should inform the king.
13. O king, hearing these words of पर्णाद, दमयन्ती, with her eyes filled with tears, went to her mother and said thus to her in private.
14. `` O mother, let not this object of mine be informed to the king : Bhima I employ सुदेव the best Brahmana, in your presence.
15. If you wish to do me good, act in such a manner that the king Bhima will not come to know of my purpose.
16. O mother, let सुदेव go at once with which I was brought back to my relatives by him, to the city of Ayodhya from here to bring Nala; let him not delay. "
17. That virtuous daughter of the king of the Vidharbhas offered due worship to पर्णाद, the best Brahamana who had taken complete rest, with plenty of wealth.
दमयन्ती said:-
18. ``O the best among the Brahamanas, indeed you have done much for me which no one else will do; and by this I shall soon meet my husband."
बृहदश्व said :-
19. Thus addressed, that noble Brahamana consoled her with auspicious benedictions and being satisfied, went home.
20. O Yudhisthir, दमयन्ती then summoned सुदेव and overwhelmed with grief and calamity, spoke to him in the presence of her mother thus:-
21-22. O Sudeva, go to the city of Ayodhya and tell the king ऋतुपर्ण who dwells in that city, “दमयन्ती, the daughter of Bhima, wishing to choose another husdand, will again hold the स्वयंवर ceremony to which the kings and princes go from all quarters.
23. Calculating the time, it will come off tomorrow; O subduer of enemies, if possible, go to once.
24. At the sun-rise, she will choose another husband; It is not known whether the warrior Nala is alive or not.
25. O king, thus spoken by her, the Brahamana, Sudeva, started at once and told to ऋतुपर्ण what he was ordered by her to do.
