उपाङ्ग

उपाङ्ग  n. 1.n. (for 2. See उपा-ञ्ज्) a minor limb or member of the body, [MārkP.] ; [Sarvad.]
   a subdivision
   a supplementary or additional work, secondary portion of a science, [MBh.] ; [Hariv.] &c. (such as the पुराणs, the न्याय, मीमांसा, and the धर्म-शास्त्रs)
   N. of a class of sacred writings of the जैनs (eight are enumerated, the last of which includes four subdivisions)
   a sectarial mark (made with sandal &c.) on the forehead, [L.]
   (in mus.) a particular drum-like instrument.

उपाङ्ग

   गम् A subdivision, a sub-head. [Mb.1.1.38]
   Any minor limb or member (of anything); वर्गाः ... साङ्गो- पाङ्गौरिहोदिताः [Ak.]
   A supplement of a supplement.
   A supplementary work (of inferior value).
   A secondary portion of science; a class of writings sup-] plementary to the Vedāngas; (these are four: पुराण- न्यायमीमांसाधर्मशास्त्राणि).
  N. N. of the class of sacred writings of the Jainas. -Comp.
