तद् n. (nom. and acc. sg. n. of and base in comp. for 2.त॑ from which latter all the cases of this pron. are formed except nom. sg. m.स॑स् or स॑ & f.सा॑; instr. pl. तै॑स्, [AV.] &c.; Ved. ते॑भिस्, [RV.] ; [AV.] &c.) m. he f. she n. it, that, this (often correlative of य॑ generally standing in the preceding clause e.g. यस्य बुद्धिः स बलवान्, ‘of whom there is intellect he is strong’; sometimes, for the sake of emphasis, connected with the 1st and 2nd personal pronouns, with other demonstratives and with relatives e.g. सो ऽहम्, ‘I that very person, I myself’ [तस्य = मम, [Nal. xv, 10] ]; ताव् इमौ, ‘those very two’; तद् एतद् आख्यानम्, ‘that very tale’ [AitBr. vii, 18] ; यत् तत् कारणम्, ‘that very reason which’ [Mn. i, 11] ; या सा श्री, ‘that very fortune which’ [MBh. vii, 427] ), [RV.] &c. तद् n.
