[g.स्वर्-आदि]; नमस्-√ कृ, to utter a salutation, do homage; ind.p.°मस्-कृ॑त्य [[AV.] ; [TS.] &c.] or °मस्-कृत्वा [[MBh.] ; [BhP.] ]; न॑मस्-कृत, worshipped, adored), [RV.] &c. &c.

नमस्     

नमस् [namas]   ind.
A bow, salutation, obeisance, adoration; (this word is, by itself, invariably used with dat.; तस्मै वदान्यगुरवे तरवे नमोऽस्तु [Bv.1.94;] नमस्त्रिमूर्तये तुभ्यम् [Ku.2.4;] but with कृ, generally with acc.; मुनित्रयं नमस्कृत्य Sk.; but sometimes with dat. also; नमस्कुर्मो नृसिंहाय ibid. The word has the sense of a noun, but is treated as an indeclinable.)
