उत्तप्

उत्-√ तप्   (उद्- √ तप्) P.-तपति, to make warm or hot;
to heat thoroughly, [Rājat.] ; [Lāṭy.] &c.;
to pain, torment, press hard, [Rājat.] ; [Śiś.] &c.: Ā.-तपते, to shine forth, give out heat, [Pāṇ. 1-3, 27] ;
to warm one's self or a part of one's body, [Kāty.] on [Pāṇ. 1-3, 27] :
Caus.-तापयति, to warm up, heat, [MBh.] ;
to excite, urge on [Sāh.]

उत्तप्     

उत्तप् [uttap]   1 [P.]
To warm, make hot, heat thoroughly, scorch, burn, sear; उत्तप्तनाराचलीलाम् [Śi.11.5;] उत्तपति सुवर्णं सुवर्णकारः Mbh. melts; so चैत्रो मैत्रस्य पाणिमुत्तपति. (Used in the Ā. when used intransitively 'to shine', or when it has a limb of the body for its object; उत्तपमानः आतपः [Bk.8.15] scorching heat; [Śi.2.4;] उत्तपते पाणी Mbh.).
To pain, torment, torture by heat; कुसुमेषुरुत्तपति यद्विशिखैः [Śi.9.67.]
To excite, urge on, press hard. -Caus. To warm, heat.
