श्रेयस्  mfn.  mfn. (either compar. of श्री, or rather accord. to native authorities of श्री-मत् or प्रशस्य; cf. Gk. κρείων) more splendid or beautiful, more excellent or distinguished, superior, preferable, better, better than (with abl. or with न See below), [RV.] &c. &c.

श्रेयस् [śrēyas] a.  a. [अतिशयेन प्रशस्यम् ईयस्सु श्रादेशः]
   Better, preferable, superior; वर्धनाद्रक्षणं श्रेयः [H.3.3;] श्रेयान् स्वधर्मो विगुणः परधर्मात् स्वनुष्ठितात् । स्वधर्मे निधनं श्रेयः परधर्मो भयावहः ॥ [Bg.3.35;2.5.]
   Best, most excellent, quite desirable; श्रेयो ह्यस्माकमेवं हि [Māl.1.13.]
   More happy or fortunate.
   More blessed, dearer (compar. of प्रशस्य q. v.). -n.
   Virtue, righteous deeds, moral or religious merit.

Shabda-Sagara

श्रेयस्  mfn.  ( -यान्-यसी-यः) Best, excellent, most excellent. Ind. Well, most excellent.

  m.  ( -यान्) The 11th Jina or Jaina pontiff.
