कण्टक

कण्टक  n. m. (n., [L.] ) a thorn, [ŚBr. v] ; [MBh.] ; [Yājñ.] &c.
   anything pointed, the point of a pin or needle, a prickle, sting, [R.]
   a fish-bone, [R. iii, 76, 10] ; [Mn. viii, 95]
करक°   a finger-nail (cf.), [Naiṣ. i, 94]
कण्टकित   the erection of the hair of the body in thrilling emotions (cf.)
   unevenness or roughness (as on the surface of the tongue), [Car.]
क्षुद्र-शत्रु   any troublesome seditious person (who is, as it were, a thorn to the state and an enemy of order and good government), a paltry foe, enemy in general (cf.), [Mn. ix, 253, &c.] ; [BhP.] ; [R.] &c.

   The point of anything.
   (Fig.) Any troublesome fellow who is, as it were, a thorn to the state and an enemy of order and good government; उत्खातलोकत्रयकण्टकेऽपि [R.14.73;] त्रिदिवमुद्धृतदानवकण्टकम् [Ś.7.3;] [Ms.9.26;] [Mv.7.8.]
   (Hence) Any source of vexation or annoyance, nuisance; कण्टकानां च शोधनात् [Ms.9.253.]
   Horripilation, erection of hair, thrill.
   A finger-nail.
   A vexing speech.
   A fish-bone; अन्धो मत्स्या- निवाश्नाति स नरः कण्टकैः सह [Ms.8.95.]
