स्मा

स्मा  n. ind.स्म, (or ष्म, ष्मा) a particle perhaps originally equivalent to ‘ever’, ‘always’
ह   and later to ‘indeed’, ‘certainly’, ‘verily’, ‘surely’ (it is often used pleonastically, and in earlier language generally follows a similar particle [esp., ], or relative, or prep. or verb, while in later language it frequently follows इति, and ना॑ [cf.1.मा॑]; it is also joined with a pres. tense or pres. participle to give them a past sense [e.g.प्रविशन्ति स्म, ‘they entered’]; this use of स्म is also found in the ब्राह्मणs and is extended to वेद and आहcf.[Vām. v, 2, 46] ), [RV.] ; &c.
