खर्वटः [kharvaṭḥ] टम् [ṭam] टम् [खर्व्-अटन्]
A market-town.
A village at the foot of a mountain; this word generally occurs joined with खेट;
[Bhāg.1.6.11;4.18.31;7.2.14;] धनुःशतं परीणाहो ग्रामे क्षेत्रान्तरं भवेत् । द्वे शते खर्वटस्य स्यान्नगरस्य चतुःशतम् ॥
[Y.2.167.] Mitākṣarā says खर्वटस्य प्रचुरकण्टक- सन्तानस्य ग्रामस्य खर्वटानि कुनगराणि । (प्रश्नव्याकरणसूत्रव्याख्याने).
