Pass. -रुध्यते ( mc. also °ति), to be impeded or checked or kept back or withheld, [R.]; [Kathās.] &c.;

to be opposed, to contend with ( instr. with or without सह, gen. loc., or acc. with प्रति), [MBh.]; [Kāv.] &c.;

to be at variance with or contradictory to ( instr.), [MBh.]; [BhP.];

to fail, [MBh.] :

Caus. -रोधयति (rarely °ते), to set at variance, disunite, [MBh.]; [R.];

to oppose, encounter, fight against or contend, with ( acc., rarely gen.);

to object to ( acc.), [MBh. x, 180] :

Desid. -रुरुत्सति, to wish to commence hostility, [MBh.]

   To contend or quarrel with; एको दोषो विदेशस्य स्वजातिर्यद्विरुध्यते [Pt.4.116.]
   To fail.
   To be kept back or withheld.
