षट्—कर्मन् n. n. the six duties of Brāhmans (
viz. अध्ययन, ‘studying or repeating the वेद’, अध्यापन, ‘teaching the V° ’, यजन ‘offering sacrifices’, याजन, ‘conducting them for others’, दान, ‘giving’, and प्रतिग्रह, ‘accepting gifts’), [ŚāṅkhGṛ.] ; [Mn.] &c. (the six daily duties accord. to the later law-books, are, स्नान, ‘religious bathing’, संध्याजप, ‘repetition of prayers at the three संध्याs’, ब्रह्म-यज्ञ, ‘worship of the Supreme Being by repeating the first words of sacred books’, तर्पण, ‘daily oblations of water to the gods, sages, and पितृs’, होम, ‘oblations of fuel, rice &c. to fire’, देव-पूजा, ‘worship of the secondary gods either in the domestic sanctuary or in temples’), [Parāś.] ; [RTL. 394]
