ईश् [īś]   2 Ā. (ईष्टे, ईशाञ्चक्रे, ऐशिष्ट, ईशिता, ईशितुम्, ईशित)
To rule, be master of, govern, command (with gen.); नायं गात्राणामीष्टे [K.312] v.l.; अर्थानामीशिषे त्वं वयमपि च गिरा- मीश्महे यावदर्थम् [Bh.3.3;] sometimes with acc.; इमाँल्लोका- नीशत ईशनीभिः [Śvet. Up.3.1] (also used in the Veda with gen. of an infinitive or loc. of an abstract noun).
To be able, have power; expressed by 'can'; माधुर्यमीष्टे हरिणान् ग्रहीतुम् [R.18.13,14.38;] कमिवेशते रमयितुं न गुणाः [Ki.6.24;] [U.7.4;] [Śi.1.38;] [Māl.1.13.]
To act like a master, allow.
To own, possess.
To belong to.
