PADMĀVATĪ I   A river which is the incarnation of Mahālakṣmī. (See under Gaṅgā).
PADMĀVATĪ II   Wife of Emperor Udayana. (See under Udayana).
PADMĀVATĪ III   Wife of Candragupta son of Sahasramukharāvaṇa. (See under Sahasramukharāvaṇa).
PADMĀVATĪ IV   A female follower of Subrahmaṇya. [Chapter 46, Śalya Parva] .
PADMĀVATĪ V   Daughter of Satyaketu, King of Vidarbha. Ugrasena married her. After marriage she went and stayed once in her father's house for a short period. During that time through illegal intimacy with a messenger from Kubera named Gobhila she became pregnant. She started to destroy the foetus when from inside a voice said “I am being born to wreak vengeance on Mahāviṣṇu for killing Kālanemi.” The son born thus was Kaṁsa. [Sṛṣṭikhaṇḍa, Padma Purāṇa] .
PADMĀVATĪ VI   Wife of a Vaiśya named Praṇidhi. Once Praṇidhi went to a neighbouring village for trade. Padmāvatī and her companions were one day bathing in a river nearby when a Śūdra passed that way. Attracted by her dazzling beauty he remained there talking to her. The Śūdra named Dharmadhvaja was greatly enamoured of her and the companions of Padmāvatī, noticing that, just to make fun of him said “If you abandon your life at the point where the rivers Gaṅgā and Yamunā meet you can attain Padmāvatī.” Without any hesitation, thinking that what they said was true, he went and ended his life at the place suggested. Immediately he became a replica of Praṇidhi and stood before Padmāvatī. The real Praṇidhi also came there then. Padmāvatī was in a fix to choose the real husband. Mahāviṣṇu appeared before them then and asked Pādmāvatī to accept both of them as her husbands Padmāvatī pleaded it was forbidden for women of her community to accept more than one husband and then Mahāviṣṇu took all the three along with him to Vaikuṇṭha. पद्मावती n.  विदर्भनृप सत्यकेतु की कन्या, एवं मायुर देश के मथुरा नगर के उग्रसेन राजा की स्त्री । इस दम्पति का एक दूसरे पर अतीव प्रेम था । एक बार यह नैहर गयी थी । वहां गोभिल नामक कुबेर के एक दूत से गर्भवती हुई । हरिवंश में, ‘गोभिल’ के बदले ‘द्रुमिल’ नाम दिया गया है [ह.वं.२.२८] । इसने गर्भ को नष्ट करने का बहुत प्रयत्न किया परंतु अंत में उस गर्भ ने कहा, ‘कालनेमिदैत्य का विष्णु ने वध किया । उसका बदला लेने के लिये मैं जन्म ले रहा हूँ’। कालोपरांत यह प्रसूत हुयी तथा इसने कंस को जन्म दिया [पद्म.सृ.४८-५१] ।
पद्मावती II. n.  प्रणिधी नामक एक श्रीमान् वैश्य की स्त्री । एक बार इसका पति व्यापार करने दूसरे ग्राम चला गया था । यह स्नान कर रह थी । फिर धनुर्ध्वज नामक अंत्यज ने इसे देखा । पाप वासना से जागृत हो कर वह इसके बारे में पूछताछ करने लगा । इसका सखियों द्वारा काफी निषेध किये जाने पर भी वह न माना । फिर उसकी मजाक उडाने के हेतु उन्होंने कहा, ‘गंगा यमुना संगम में अगर प्राण दोगे, तो पद्मावती की प्राप्ति तुम्हे होगी । फिर गंगा के संगम में जा कर सचमुच ही उसने प्राण दे दिये । तत्काल उसका रुप पद्मावती के पति प्राणिधी वैश्य के समान बन गया । बाद में सच्चा प्रणिधी तथा धनुर्ध्वज दोनों पद्मावती के घर पहुँचे गये । फिर अपना वास्तव पति कौन है? इसके बारें में पद्मावती के मन में संदेह उत्पन्न हो गया । पश्चात्, श्रीविष्णु ने स्वयं प्रकट हो कर, इसे दोनों के साथ पत्नी के रुप में रहने के लिये कहा, किंतु भूमंडल पर यह निषिद्ध है, ऐसा इसके द्वार कहे जाने पर, श्री विष्णु उन तीनों को वैकुंठ ले गये [पद्म.क्रि.४] ।
