MANYU I   A Vedic god. The origin of this god is described in Brahma Purāna as follows:-- Once a terrible war broke out between Devas and Asuras. The Devas who were defeated, went to the Gautamī river valley and performed penance to Śiva praying for victory. Śiva produced Manyu from his third eye and presented him to the Devas. In the battle which followed they defeated the Asuras with the help of Manyu.
MANYU II   A king of the Pūru dynasty. Bhāgavata, 9th Skandha states that Manyu, the son of Bharadvāja, had five sons including Bṛhatkṣaya.

मन्यु II. n.  (सो. पूरु.) एक पूरुवंशीय राजा, जो भरद्वाज का पुत्र था । इसे बृहत्क्षय आदि पॉंच पुत्र थे [भा.९.२१.१] । भविष्य में इसके नाम के लिए ‘मन्युमत्’ पाठभेद प्राप्त है ।

Anger, wrath, resentment, indignation, rage; बाहुप्रतिष्टम्भविवृद्धमन्युः [R.2.32,] 49;11.46; नियमितमनोमन्युर्दृष्टा मया रुदती प्रिया [Nāg.2.6.]
Grief, sorrow, affliction, distress; निकृन्तन्मर्माणि क्रकच इव मन्युर्विरमति [U.4.3;] [Ki.1.35;] यास्यन् सुतस्तप्स्यति मां सुमन्युम् [Bk.1.23;] also 3.49.
Wretched or miserable state, meanness.
