अध्रुव [adhruva] a.  a. uncertain, doubtful.
    unsteady, moving, not fixed or permanent; स्वाङ्गेऽध्रुवे [P.III.4.54;] separable ( which can be severed or detached without fatal or disastrous effects) ( येन विना न जीवनं सोऽध्रुवः Sk.)- वम् An uncertainty; यो ध्रुवाणि परित्यज्य अध्रुवाणि निषेवते । ध्रुवाणि तस्य नश्यन्ति अध्रुवं नष्टमेव च [H.1.184.] cf. the english phrase 'A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.'
