Service to others in need is praised bere by the poet as a
worthy ideal. Better to die and be usefal to others than exist
merely fox one's ow£ self. f. पर्यायपीनस्य जुरहिमांशो: कलाक्षयः
ाध्यनरो हि छद्धेः । Bagh. 5. 16.
Vs. 16-नङ्ग A bird. रमालककुलानि-1The tender sprouts on
the mango--tree. त्वायि संकोचनश्चति - When thou art thinned . e.
wher thou art dried up. It is a Loc. Abs. construction. ia-

flowers in search of honey. When, however, the lake dries
ap, and the lotuses fade, they unscrupulously migrate to
another more congenial resort-the mango-tree, as the poet says
here. The bees and the bírds are only casual visitors of the lake:
they stay as long as it suits them.
hand, is a habitual dweller in the lake. Its plight certainly
becomes tragic when the lake dries, for it cannot shift to any
other place.

Prosperity will bring many a friend, but few will prove
loyal and abiding when adversity tries thea. Yet there will
ever be some who are solely dependent on us, and will have to
share our misery. They are to be pitied indeed !
Vs. 17.-मा मंस्था:- Do not pxesume, सौरभलोभ- Greed for thy
perfume. The bee has a greed for the honey of the lotus-plant.
The common element sought to be denied is not aTa, but
anly. Hie-Respected. Unlike the bee which is selfish,
the wind wafts over the lotus-plant only to minister to the
delight of others.
